I have an irrational want right now for a full enclosed boat from the 80's

Like this one I found locally. probably smaller, in the 28-30 foot range.

DO IT. You need to let me ride in it at least once, though.

Just do a lot of research on the model you buy. The upkeep on some is a lot more than others. Check to see what the registration fees are in your state for sizes too, some states charge more based on length.

Also, at that size, you're going to need mooring. I doubt you'd want to tow and park that thing everywhere. So you'll need to price that out. Winter is a good time to buy too since most people aren't shopping for them when it's freezing.

I've owned two, I wanted something big (28'+) but never went above 22' based off of operating cost, ability to store and transport it, ease of repairs and parts when it came to power boats. I did have a HUGE 44' Ketch sailing boat for a really fun (aka short) period of time that I flipped and sold for a solid profit.

Never forget, "A boat is a hole in the water you pour money into"

Come steal one of my neighbor's boats that he shouldn't have parked on the street but probably intends to leave there all winter .

I got all excited this morning because I saw a City of Madison parking enforcement Wrangler pull into my driveway. Hopefully he starts collecting mass quantities of alternate side parking tickets.

What are the two happiest days of a boat owner's life?

The day he buys the boat and the day he sells the boat.

I say do it! I mean, there's no way this could end in financial ruin and/or a nasty divorce, right? Even if it did, a 28-30 footer is large enough to live on while you recover so win/lose/win, right?

nice lake, but still a lake. I have been there when I was much younger and spring break wasn't the idiocy it is these days, well mostly. I would still just want a pontoon unless I was going to live on it.

Its a big lake with big weather. Don't forget there is more coastline in lake Powell than there is in California. That's lots of exploring to do.

I need pics too, it is 2.5h north of here and all my pics are on a phone I drowned this summer. If I can get that thing back to life I would be the happiest person alive right now. Otherwise it will be spring before I get back up there

Only get it if you have the extra money to burn AND you like the idea of spending weeks or months every year going places on that boat.

I've read many stories where the two happiest days of boat ownership for many people are when they buy it... and when they sell it (and glad to see it gone).

I suggest you test the idea out by renting a boat for a month or two and see how that is.

I wanted something in between that and a lethal jetboat, kinda long yet still sporty so this WILL BE my 70's/80's coke fantasy boat: The motherfucking Sleekcraft Ambassador, ideally twin engined. Can tow it behind an SUV and just big enough for a few hookers. See ya on lake Havasu.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Seriously I'm buying one its like a $4k boat now, I creeped out the owners of one I saw parked at a gas station last summer.

Kinja'd!!!

Me at stoplight: "Is that an Ambassador??"

Owner: "Uuuh...yah."

Me: *strange sexual noises*

that last bit of dialog will haunt me forever. Speed isn't something I care about, with boats anything about 30 mph is just converting gas into noise, imo.

Sold, I'll take ownership when I move out there in under a year. It kinda reminds me of similar craft they had at disneyworld in the 90's. An 11 year old me sank one with my brother and friend after jumping wakes and spashing each other using our own.

Initially suburban Denver because there lies a cute leggy college friend with an empty duplex waiting for me. I was born there I'm immune to their special breed of asshole

Can't go wrong with a '70s or '80s Carver Mariner. They're like the Honda Element of cabin cruisers - boxy and not terribly elegant, but loads of space inside for a 33 footer. Dirt cheap too.
